Newcastle West Town FC With all the recent concerns surrounding the health of the nation and the world in general, we are delighted to share a bit of good news on the club front with the announcement on Tuesday last, March 31st that the Football Association of Ireland has awarded Newcastle West Town FC the FAI Club mark. This essentially is a reward by the top footballing authority in the land to recognise best practise in the game in a variety of areas such as management, governance and administration. It was the culmination of many months of hard work carried out by the clubs committee and our many club volunteers, who have been putting in long hours to put the proper structures in place to gain such recognition. The ultimate objective of the club going forward is to be in a better place to develop our players and teams and in general, promote the game in Newcastle West and the surrounding area as best possible, look evergreen maids. Since the club was founded 3 years ago after the amalgamation of the towns two clubs, namely Newcastle West Rovers and Newcastle West AFC, we have seen the numbers of playing members in the club grow year on year. Last season, we had 2 adult men’s teams and a youth’s team, an adult ladies side and a girls under 19 team and in total, 350 or so underage schoolboy and schoolgirl players. In order to ensure adequate training and match pitch availability, the club has 2 grounds, one at the Demesne and another at Woodfield. It also has a fully floodlit, astro turf training facility when required for training during the winter months in particular. Keeping these pitches constantly ready and able to hold matches and have all our teams prepared requires an enormous number of volunteers in terms of ground staff, coaches and managers, and to keep the administrative aspects of the game in check has also seen a huge effort being put in by our committee / fundraisers and other volunteers. It was this area of the running of the club that was officially recognised last Tuesday and we would like to thank each and every person who played their part in the application. It puts the club on a fantastic footing by effectively giving it the foundation to now build on by further development of the club in other areas (facilities / players / teams etc) These are exciting times to be involved in the game of soccer in Newcastle West and we look forward to setting further achievable ‘goals’ in the near future. Check naughtee.net. It would not be possible without your continued support on all levels so thanks to everyone that plays their part, it is greatly appreciated. To all our players, mentors, sponsors and supporters, we wish that you are all safe in these troubled times for everyone and look forward to coming out of it at the other end in good health and spirit.
