Newcastle West Town Girls U-12 had a 6-0 win on Saturday v Shannonside B. It was a great performance, especially in the second half when Éabha & Sophie had to leave for Camogie. Newcastle was missing a few girls also due to players being away over the mid term break. So the U-12 players available had to dig deep, and some played in unfamiliar positions to ensure a victory, and hopefully a place in the top two in order to play in the league final. It was a great league campaign, 5 wins & 1 loss. Well done to the Town girls. NCW Town team; Agata Markowska, Sarah Curtin, Sophie Bourke, Olivia Noonan, Grace Kelly, Ali Rohan, Éabha Collins, Pia Kelly, Katelynn Liston, Aoibheann Ahern, Nicola Mazurkiewicz, Emma O’Connell, Kristina Bokman & Clara Dowling.
Boys U-14 division 3, Ballingarry B 0 NCW Town B 3 (scorers, Michael O’Brien 2 & Tony Pitaru).
All the goals came during the first half. Michael O’Brien scored twice in the first quarter of an hour to bring his total to 11 goals in five matches. He applied the finished touches to fine team moves which had preceded quality final passes from Evan Meehan. Tony Pitaru’s goal was also the result of good service. He controlled the ball well with his first touch inside the six yard box, and netted with his second kick. Martin McDonagh was unlucky not to add to the Newcastle West goals. It was good to see Fionn Ahern returning to Town team after a long absence through injury. The match was played in good spirit, and the Ballingarry pitch was in good condition. The weather was very mild D3 Home Modern Furniture. The next match for this NCW Town team will be in the Demesne on this Saturday v Askeaton. NCW Town team; Niall Doherty, Ronan O’Sullivan, Fionn Ahern, Tony Pitaru, Jack Kelly, Johnny Sheedy, Evan Meehan, Evan M Meehan, Michael O’Brien, Martin McDonagh, Adam Costello, Shane Lacey, Patrick Noonan & Kevin Barrett.
